I feel like I am in my 20′s again..or do I?

It seems like only yesterday that I opened my first physiotherapy practice on the Sunshine Coast, when in fact it was actually 19 years ago.  But the butterflies in my stomach are the same.

The main difference is this time I won’t be looking up text books for every patient to check to see if I am treating something right…20 years experience of 1000′s and 1000′s of client treatments later I am pretty sure I know what to do!

I was 22 years old, I had been working overseas with high profile sporting teams when I saw a tiny ad on the last page of the Australia Physiotherapy Association magazine.  I turned down an invitation to go to the Olympic Games in Atlanta as the Physiotherapist for the Irish Rowing team, turned my back on working with players from the Irish Rugby Union team and within 6 weeks I had relocated, and started what was the first of several practices, on the Sunshine Coast.  During the following 14 years I peaked with 14 staff over 3 practices.

Since I sold the businesses in 2009, I have travelled, got engaged, got married and had 2 beautiful little girls.

Now the time has come and i am ready to start back doing what i love…treating clients and helping them overcome pain and dysfunction.

I WANT IT ALL!!

I am going to juggle being a mother, a wife, a cleaner, a cook, a taxi service.  I am going to continue taking my daughters to swimming, dancing, little kickers, gymbaroo, kindermusic and the zoo. They are going to have play dates and spend as much time with me as they want.

I am going to work part time but I am going to be available for my clients as much as they need me.  I am not going to lie, my girls will always come first.  But with the help of my amazing family I am going to be Supermum and have it all.

Why go back now?

I have continued to maintain my Physio registration and have treated family and friends over the past few years (I just couldn’t help myself). And then I came across an amazing new way of treating.  I stayed up until 2am on a Sunday night trying to find out as much as I could. And then I rang the next morning at 9am begging to be booked in for the next course. The rest is history.  I am now obsessed with this new way of assessing and treating clients.  But more about that tomorrow.  Suffice to say, it was enough to catapult me back into working a few years earlier than I intended…simply because the results I have seen this process achieve are nothing short of “WOW”.
